Crystal Castleberry will introduce the Custis Square, the former home of John Custis IV, and First Baptist archaeology projects. The First Baptist Church is one of the nation’s first continuous congregations to be founded by free and enslaved African-Americans. While these properties have very different histories, both seek to better understand the lives of African and African-descended people living and working in the Williamsburg area.
