Committee

“I wish I could say that racism and prejudice were only distant memories. We must dissent from the indifference. We must dissent from the apathy. We must dissent from the fear, the hatred and the mistrust…We must dissent because America can do better, because America has no choice but to do better.”

— Thurgood Marshall, Lawyer & Associate Supreme Court Justice (1908-1993)

These events are typically held once a year and involve much planning. Dialogue Circles are discussions held over five sessions in which the same diverse group of people meet for at least two hours each session to learn about the diverse experiences of the other participants.  Committee members will secure a trained Dialogue Circle facilitator to manage participants and conversation during the sessions. The committee members will act as schedule liaison to ensure all participants are aware of their long-term commitment to the Circle.  Committee members should take pictures!!

Committee members will manage volunteer sign-up for the Black Lives Matter Lemonade Stand tent on Saturdays at the Williamsburg Farmer’s Market from April to October. Committee members will ensure that there is enough coverage for the stand on any given Saturday, this may mean volunteering their time at a moment’s notice. Committee members will ensure that the tent is stocked with lemonade, snacks, brochures, bookmarks, and that the Black Lives Matter car is loaded and ready to go for the next Saturday.
